(Brasilia).- Of the 114 companies that applied for authorisation to operate in the online betting market, 71 have been released to pay the R$30 million fee to operate the game, the Secretary for Prizes and Betting at the Ministry of Finance, Regis Alexandre Dudena, said on Tuesday (10). He also said that from 1 January 2025, only properly legalised betting shops will be able to operate.

Dudena was heard by the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) investigating betting to explain how the government deals with the betting market, focusing on control and inspection measures. The secretary told the committee that these companies have complied with almost all the requirements demanded by the Ministry of Finance in order to operate properly.
‘So, 71 companies have already been notified by the Ministry of Finance, and they have 30 days from the notification to fulfil these final requirements. Of these, 16 have already paid the licence fee. Today we have 16 companies that have already paid a total of R$480 million in grants to the Ministry of Finance,’ he said. ‘They began to be notified on the 19th of last month, so they have until the 18th of this month or the 19th of this month to comply with this payment, which is why some have already complied and some still haven't,’ he continued.
Opened in May this year, the deadline for companies to apply for certification ended in August. During this period, 114 companies applied to the Ministry. In September, the Ministry of Finance published a decree suspending the operations of fixed odds betting companies, also known as bets, which had not applied for authorisation to operate in the country.
Company domains
The deadline for applying for authorisation expired on 1 October and the websites of companies that hadn't applied for regulation began to be taken offline on the 11th of the same month. The company that applied for the licence but was not yet active will have to continue waiting to start operations in January, if the ministry releases the activity.
